got mine today. easily worth the measly $18.50 i paid or whatever is was. i've spent more buying fast food. i should have bought a couple more. i like the idea of having my side arms locked in one and stored in the safe. like double protection.

I have something similar that requires a key. It is called a "snapsafe." I bought them locally, and grabbed 3 with the same keycode sticker. (They have keyed locks.)

Do they provide much in protection from a thief? No, not really. Does it meet the requirement of having a gun in a locked case to transport in a car? Yep. I keep one in the back of my SUV next to the Trunk Monkey. If I had a regular car, a regular gun case in the trunk would be fine.

All the keyed versions I have seen at least have all steel lock components.

I do understand, especially in CA that doing certain things just for the sake of complying with the law has some merit.

Can anyone who purchased one confirm that the part where the cam is held on with the retaining clip is indeed still plastic on the combo locks?
(btw, the plastic lock body is not exclusive to this brand)

the "housing" that holds the locking machanism on the inside including the cam that the c-clip attaches to is plastic. but again, this box isn't meant for high security. it's merely a means to stay compliant, while keeping out children. it has many uses, not just handguns. my XD9 and one mag fits nicely.
