meh.
It's Soylent white. Not made of people."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" - Senator Barry Goldwater -
Going to try some for grins and convenience. If it works out I might sign on for more. I developed a gluten intolerance and that complicates things for me with most convenient foods to grab on the go. I doubt it will be a true "meal replacement" as far as making you feel like you just ate a satisfying meal , but if it can squeak me by until lunch without feeling like I'm starving and pre-occupied with lunch all morning maybe tbat will justify the price. The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.Comment

Ok i tried some. I glt the ready-to-drink bottles. One original and one cacao.
Taste- thicker than milk, slight but noticeable texture (grainy). A bit like tbe milk after eating a bowl of cheerios, especially the last bowlful ojt of a box, wigh all tbat oat poader in it. A very slight sweetnsss if yku are payi g attention but not a "sweet" drink.
The cacao was the same except with some cocoa powder thrown in.
It's not something you would seek out for tbe taste but tbe taste is not objectionable at all and i could see using it on an occasionable or semi-regular basis.
I did a bit of reading about it. Most reviews are good bjt tbe few that aren't aren't all that valid. They go from the assumption that you would be dropping your 100% macrobiltic yogurt, kale and kelp fresh every meal and go 100% Soylent every meal of tbe day. That is not the intended niche for this product. This is aimed at busy folks who just don't have bandwidth for healthy whose other options would be drive-up McD's or the breakroom vending machine. In terms of nutrition it's a big step uup from that low standard.
I had it for breakfast twice this week. Was not hungry again until lunch. It saved me time, gave me decent energy and stopped me from preoccupation with lunch all morning. That's what i expected from the product and it delivered. I can definitely see having some in my desk drawer at work for days when stuff blows up and i get stuck working through lunch.
It is available as a powder in pouches. I think i will replace the tactical shortbread cookies in my get-home bag with this. I can no longer eat the Mainstay bars because the gluten causes me big problems and tbe past 3 times i traveled with tbem TSA thought tbey might be something dangerous- probably due to hkw they are packaged. A pouch or two of Soylent and a shaker would probably be a good alternative.
Soylent for every meal? It's a free country and all, but i wouldn't. People have done it though with seemingly no ill effects unlike that guy who went on an all-McDonald's diet for a month. It's intended to be quick, easy, sustainable and relatively non-toxic. I think there's a place for it on my shopping list.
Recommendation -find a bottle and try some. Don't expect to be in love with the taste, but expect to like how it lets you dispense with the time and inconvenience of eating without forcing you to resort to junk food. That is what jt was designed to do and imho does a satisfactory job of it.Last edited by bruss01; 10-04-2017, 11:21 AM.The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.Comment

I used this stuff for about a month, not exclusively, but replaced a meal or two per day. I found that it irritated my stomach, although I hear they revamped the formula since then because of similar feedback. I might go back to it, but this time I won't buy a 3 month supply all at once.
Btw the "plain" flavor tastes like pancake batter.Comment

Yeah, that is one of the things I found a bit frustrating in trying to research it, the product has been through several iterations and the "version" being reviewed isn't always clearly identified. The most current version I think is 2.0. Yes there was an earlier version that was a problem for some folks, they swapped out an ingredient and supposedly that resolved the issue... so if it has been a while maybe a re-test is in order.
Another frustration is I cannot identify the product version of the ones I bought through Amazon. It would be nice if that were identified on the bottle somewhere. Also from some product photos I was expecting square bottles, but the ones I got were round. I may do more checking today just out of curiosity.
BTW - the comment about "pancake batter" taste - pretty darn close, a thin, creamier version of pancake batter would seem pretty close. Side note - the object of the product is to basically take food out of the loop as a biological necessity (at least on occasions when needed). It's not intended to be "yummy" or "delicious" because if it was, you'd consume more than necessary. "Not objectionable" seems to be the sweet spot for "I just don't want to have to bother with eating, going for food, or preparing food, until I'm able to sit down to a proper meal" consumption.
ETA: found a "release notes" page

just tried my first bottle yesterday. version 2 original flavor from amazon. Definitely agree with the milk taste after eating a bowl of semi sweet cereal.
Did it's job in replacing my lunch when I had back to back meetings. Didn't feel tired or hungry and for dinner, my appetite was normal. just one day, but after one bottle, nothing negative, so I'm willing to go through the box as needed.Comment

I have recently started using their Cafe line for breakfast. They have left me satiated for hours up until the early afternoon with no apparent side effects.
If you're a visitor of Reddit, they have a referral link that gives you 50% off your first box (12 bottles) of a new subscription, which results in ~$18/box shipped for their flavored versions.Comment

If anybody hasn't seen, go check out the movie Soylent Green (1973 I think). Pretty solid dystopian world flick that has aged decently.God may have made men, but Samuel Colt made them equal.
Send me pics of your: Colt Detective Special, AMT Hardballer, pre-64 Winchester Model 70. I'm looking for them.Comment

It sounds like a noble ambition to feed everyone on the planet. However resource distribution is a lot like economics. The things that are rewarded you get more of, the things that are penalized you get less of.
So let's reward people for reproducing ad infinitum by expanding our food supply to feed them and all their offspring... sounds good, until...
Until you realize that all those extra people don't just consume food. They need houses, they need cars, they need clothing... this takes land on which to raise food (of which there is a finite supply) fuel for transport and electricity (also finite supply) and clean water (VERY finite supply).
Before you realize it you've created a world in which everyone is fed, but anything beyond that is unobtainable for most.
I'm starting to think the Georgia Guidestones may have been onto something. People dying of starvation because there isn't enough food may be a small mercy compared to the privation and misery of a world that feeds everyone but leaves them to rot in 3rd world squalor. The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.Comment

Try using amazon smile instead of regular amazon. Part of your purchase will go towards Calguns if you select them as your charity to donate to. I have a link for amazon smile on my favorites bar so it makes it easy.Comment
