Like somebody said in the AKfiles, those masks are probably good for riots and cans of gas being shot at you.... depending on how well they seal and if the filters are still any good.

For a real SHTF mask, which I would be more interested in, invest in something much better.

I used to wear one while shooting at the range -- you know, "train like you fight" and all that. I used to get weird looks, and I would hear people laughing at me behind my back. But I always just scoffed at those people, knowingly dismissing them as mere "sheep." Ultimately, I knew that they were just jealous because they didn't look as cool as me. "They hate me 'cause they ain't me," I would tell myself as I returned to my chest rig and knee pad drills.

But then one day I ran out of tin foil for my homemade hats, and all of a sudden I came to the stark realization that my gas mask was not only unnecessary, it was downright stupid. I sold it to a guy wearing an Ops-Core FAST helmet and a tactical desert shemagh scarf, and I haven't looked back since. I've been gas mask free for almost two years now, and I'm happy to report that life is definitely good!

Novelty. Thats it. If you want true airway/skin protection try another route like a level A suit and SCBA. Gonna cost you about $7500 and last you an hour.

I would say a mask of this type would be good if you were caught in a "riot zone." Should be good for tear gas and or pepper spray. However, I would probably spend a little more and get something that will have a better seal.

As for true NBC (nuclear, bio, chem), one would need the whole set-up of mask and suit and it would be too cost-prohibitive to own, especially since the chance of using would be extremely slim.
