I'm new to old firearms. Are these new re-issue guns? Used? In picking one, what does one look for to select a decent one? Thanks!

These are almost certainly all used. Bores will likely be counter-bored, meaning they were re-arsenaled. The counter-boring is done to restore accuracy to a scratched barrel crown (from using the steel cleaning rod from the muzzle end)

If you can, take a bore light and a Field Headspace Gauge with you when you check them out. Use the borelight to check if the rifling is still sharp, and the field gauge to check headspace. If the bolt closes on the field gauge, don't buy it!

Look carefully at the side of the receiver for any welded-up holes. Two (or more) welded holes on the left side of the receiver is a hint that the rifle may be an ex-sniper

I got my last 91/30 from SOG. I was $59.95 plus shipping. No DROS, etc. It is nice to have a C&R license. By the way the rifle had been re-arsenaled

they ARE sweet guns...sometimes even the "junkers" and for Big 5's sale price anybody who is anybody is nutts if they keep passing on these deals.

I prefer the M44's (The shorties for the noobs) and related but the 91's are where it started and they are still gems in themselves.

What SUX...I was JUST at Big 5 on SUNDAY...and I guess the sale hadn't started yet or I'd already be complaining of my 10 day...EXCUSE ME...11 DAY wait.....

Yes, Big 5 makes ya' wait ELEVEN days for Pick up

Looked at a couple when I bought my 91/59 last weekend, and the barrels were in REAL bad shape.

Does Big 5 honor C&R licenses?
