Once A Pawn A Time is a wonderful little pawn shop in Glendale on Broadway that still deals in firearms. The owner is a sweet older lady who is happy to work with you to make your experience easy and pleasurable, unlike a number of gun stores I've had the experience of visiting.

Anyhow, I dropped by there today and thought I'd let you guys know of some of the fair deals I saw.

S&W Model 15-3 4" Barrel bluing in fair to good condition - $300
Ruger GP-100 Stainless good condition - $340
Charter Arms Undercover .38spl 1 7/8" barrel, bluing in poor condition - $120

There was also another S&W Model 15 with a 6" barrel and some custom wood grips but the price escapes me. An odd custom 1911 in .38spl as well for the hefty price of $1500. The last piece of interest to me was a Sig Sauer X-Five in 9mm for $1700 (I think). The X-Five is a wonderful gun and not that easy to find in CA, in my experience.

Where are they on Broadway? I'll have to drop in sometime.

The only other shop in Glendale I know is Gun Gallery, which at the gun show, always has.. um, optimistic prices. I think they believe in the foreign sales concept- high price, and you bargain it down. getting too old for that

There's also Kings, but I haven't been there in years.

Are you sure thats not .38 Super? I've never heard of a 1911 in a rimmed caliber....

Yeah, thats what struck me as the most odd about it. The slide appeared to be clearly marked .38spl though. After spying that one, I ran into another up in the Bay Area - that one had a tag indicating it was built specifically for .38spl Wadcutter rounds. How the feed geometry works on that I'm not sure.

The charter arms undercover is gone by the way. It left for 100 bucks

I have dealt with them for an out of state sales from AZ to CA. She was very easy to work with and the transfer fees were very fair.

I will also vouch for the kind lady. Her name escapes me at the moment (I'm terrible with names) but she was very helpful and knowledgable. Bought a glock on consignment and and M1 Garand with my C&R license. Transactions were very easy.

sandra is a nice lady, but her $80 fees per handgun, and $80 per rifle, regardless of how many long guns you transfer at one time, is kinda steep.

that said, i was there yesterday and they had a 1942 luger in xclnt. i talked to the guy selling it and he said told sandra that he wanted 1600 for it but was willing to go down to 1000.

The 1911 you guys are talking about is indeed a .38 Special midrange wadcutter made by Jim Clark. It clearly has Clark Custom Guns marked on the slide. It has the Clark classic tiger tooth stippling. It's made for bullseye competition.

Clark converted Colt .38 Super pistols to fire the .38 Special wadcutter. Today that same conversion on your gun is about $1200 but it isn't done by Jim Clark himself. The gun in the pawnshop is a pre-Series 70, so I'm pretty sure Jim Clark, Sr. did the work himself. You can tell by looking at the inside of the slide, but I didn't really feel like asking permission to field strip the pistol.

This gun is well worn, but could be quite valuable. If I had the money, I'd make them an offer.

BTW, the shop is one block east of Glendale Blvd. on the south side of Broadway. You can't park right in front of the shop, but there is parking on Broadway just east of it.
