A new trend with AR-15 rails is to run with slimmer, lighter forearms, aka, handguards with rails attached only where you need them.
Slickers rails are not only lighter and more ergonomic due to space and weight saved from not having excess rails and rail/hand protects, they are also less expensive due to saved machine time for manufacturers!
One of the light and most popular rails available right now are the Troy TRX Extreme rails. The Troy TRX is available as a Troy version, or as a Viking Tactics version.
Troy TRX Extreme = Large holes for ventilation. About an 1 lighter than VTAC in all versions. Comes with a wrench for TRX barrel nuts
VTAC TRX Exteme = Slot for ventilation, which result in less abrasive texture for hands. VTAC rails also come with a wrench that can be used with standard, as well as TRX barrel nuts.
