Turners Sentry Safe $299, original price $699

Can't believe no one post this yet. Just pick one up an hour ago. Even though it is not a fire safe, $299 is still a very good price. At 334 lbs, it is even heavier than the Costco Sentry safe for $399. I got the older style combination lock instead of digital pad, and there are a lot of carpeted shelves inside. I would not buy it at $699, but at $299, some of you can use it as an ammo safe.

Looks like a nice buy. I wonder how much shipping would be to North Carolina?

Doesn't Costco have the same one for 400?

It is a 100lbs heavier than the Costco one, 5" taller, 1" wider, and $100 less. There are compartments behind the door, and it is UL listed. The safe I think is not design straightly for rifle, rather for multi-purpose. You do have to remove some shelves or modify the shelves to fit rifles nicely.

Good catch, looked right over it, but seems perfect for ammo with the horizontal shelves, and light enough to move but with a bolt down option.

BTW: OP how strong are the shelves, will they support ammo weight?

They seems pretty strong, I think 3/8" thick. IMO, it is much better than the Turners house brand Buffalo safe.

Here's a good summary of this specific model.

Looks like a good, solid safe.

Just because it doesn't have any fire protection, it doesn't mean that you can't line it with sheetrock and give it some. That's all most safes have in the way of fire protection so, it's a simple and cheap thing to do.

...Just bought it at Turners today to satisfy the law and the need to secure my rifle away from my little ones.

Well as they say -- you get what you pay for.

This safe is definitely intended for documents and not rifle storage. Also there is definitely no need for 5 shelves, not when you want to store rifles. I am now going to use one of the shelves and cut it with a Jigsaw to cut out some niches so I can neatly stack 4 rifles abreast. I would say 4 rifles maximum for a neat look and with around 12" of shelf space at the top.

It was advertised at 300 pounds but I was able to maneuver it around myself. There is no fire rating which is a bummer.

When I bolted it to the garage floor with 2 supplied bolts, the bottom plate is so thin that the whole safe warped when I tightened it down. The bolt holes pattern wasn't diagonal but side by side which made it wobbly. I think I will add and bolt a metal plate to the bottom to further support the safe.

All in all I can't complain for $299 + tax. I was about to buy the Costco equivalent for $399 but I just see as I write this review that it just went out of stock. Also that Costco unit would have cost me $100+ and more in tax. Something I could do without right now.

I would have to say on the plus side that the tumbler lock feels smooth and solid on the unit and overall the safe does not *look* cheap from the outside. Also to unlock the safe takes some practise as it differs to the usual combination locks.

The major negative is the thin metal body and no fire rating which would have been good so I can secure some documents as well. But hey... a rifle safe for $299...I'll take it!!!

Also , I forgot to add that I found the equivalent SentrySafe safe which was actually designed to hold rifles for regular price of $399 at of all places...HomeDepot!!! i was there trying to buy a larger concrete drill-bit when I chanced upon it.

It definitely looks like the same safe except for the internals. It is advertised that it can hold up to 14 guns... Not sure how they measured that...hahaha!

Let's see... $699 regular price at Turners compared to $399 regular price at HomeDepot...with Home Depot actually selling the correct safe for guns. Hmmm... what does that tell you about Turners prices! 8-)

                          See:

I have one of these safes and you can get 14 long guns in it. Pistol grips and scopes always take up extra room. Their storage systems leave much to be desired. I always just cut a piece of 3/4" plywood a stager 3 rows of 5 holes, 2" each hole and you are good to go. While a little thin, they are decent units.

I was delving on the solution on how do you securely attach the shaped plywood to the interior... did your drill? What sort of fasteners did you use?

                              I might just do that!
