Makeshift Range Bag - Harbor Freight

Saw this on the Harbor Freight website...

Took a quick trip to the local store, shelf was empty, but they were able to find one in the back. Gave it a good going-over.

Build quality is good (not excellent) wheels are decent, telescoping handle is a bit short, has internal pockets (they line the interior), top zipper is a bit long on each end, but I went with it. Top opens up nice and wide. Sure beats the socks off the backpack & cardboard box I've been using! For $19.99 plus tax... I decided not to pass it up.

The nylon is not the thickest, but it isn't the thin stuff used for backpacks & gymbags. Seams are reinforced. Zipper pulls are metal and not plastic. Bottom is reinforced with a hard plastic sheet.

Once I actually load it up and take it to the range, I'll post follow up comments. Obviously not a great choice to load heavy and roll through dirt or gravel, but it does have handle straps if needed.

Definitely looks usable, although personally dragging something behind me rolling around just doesn't work too well when I go to the outdoor range(I'm usually carrying way too much crap). But if all you need is something to carry eye/ear prot, basic tools, and some ammo for a quick run to the local indoor range... looks alright.

But...that bag doesn't have wheels with a handle...if you want a really nice range bag, get the Midway USA bag. It's a few bucks more, but has a lot of great features!

To the OP; Definately looks like it's worth the money! I've been trying to find that exact item with respect to having wheels and a handle. When carrying a gun case with multiple guns, it would be nice to have a bag on wheels...plus I'm getting old

It's a great bag but don't buy unless it's on sale and it goes on sale quite often. It's also very big and can get extremely heavy if you're not careful.

The 'getting old' observation is all too true. I'm going to be at Harbor Freight today and I'll give this a look.

its the same reason I never bought a Tv with a DVD or VHS built in. or any other 'convenient' gadget that has several bells and whistles (except for my guns if one breaks but the other works im probably just as likely to want to replace both.
these portable hand trucks will prob be more useful around the house too
              btw. cost is $10

I would prefer to use one of those tall(ish) rolling toolboxes, that the Stanley company makes... but I just don't have space to store it here at home, when it's not in use. This rolling bag I can empty out into my cabinets, then I can smish it flat and stuff it up in a little spot, in the top of a closet.

I have one of those "fold-flat" handtrucks. Mine came from Costco. They work great, but I still didn't have any type of bag or case available, to use in conjunction with the handtruck. Had to get something anyway. So... it's kinda "two birds one stone" at the moment.

The other reason I brought up this particular bag... was to provide another idea/option for folks that transport their gear in the trunk of a sedan. I drive a van, so space isn't an issue... but I was trying to think beyond just my own personal needs. Since it's low and wide, it would work well in a trunk.

Trivial bit: The bag they had at the store was green & khaki... the website shows black & khaki.

Couple trips now. Holding up fine. Had a mess-o-stuff in there, didn't weigh it but as was mentioned, it would be easy to overload.

One thing I like is I can slip a package of 14"x14" targets into it, without bending or rolling them. Plenty of room, so it's easy to "work out" of it. Using the internal side pockets for eyes & ears, masking tape, etc. Ammo flat on the bottom. General "stuff" in the rest of it.

I am thinking of improvising a prop rod, to hold the top open when I have it unzipped. The internal rods (that hold the shape) tend to like to close up the opening. Not bad, by any means, just more of a convenience issue.

I use a Stanley rolling tool bag similar to the OP when I go to the range.

It doesn't look like a gun bag.

It's just plain easier when I bring a bunch of ammo to shoot. The wheels help for any trips through the parking lot.

I want to workout in the gym not on my way to shooting.
