sorry but whats the purpose of the bolt holding open? to tell you that you're empty? once you release the magazine, the bolt automatically closes, correct?

It does on some AK 47's. On my AK, the bolt will stay back and you can lightly tap the side of the AK and the bolt will throw forward.
