    Would you shoot this ammo?

J&G Sales is selling 500 rounds of .40 cal frangible ammo for $75. However, there is a warning......

"Due to extensive water damage, this ammo is sold for component use only and is not to be fired."

Do you think this is a statement just to cover their behinds, or they are really not good to shoot????

I'd shoot it if it looks like the picture. Of course, I'd pull a few rounds down first and inspect them and, I'd have to borrow your .40 since, I don't own a .40.

Why risk it? Harm to yourself or more importantly....your gun!!!

But really, what could go wrong? A few duds? Sure I wouldn't rely on it for home safety, but for punching paper I'd give it a shot. How many people here shoot russian surplus 7.62 x 39 or 54R, having no clue what it's been through. If the bullets and cases weren't visibly rusted, to the point they wouldn't feed properly, I'd run em...

Just ordered 500. If I get a chance to shoot it I will let you know how it goes.

Just ordered 500 for my brother in law who has a beat up tackle box .40cal. He's a cheap bastard and he'll shoot the most inexpensive ammo as long it looks safe(major corrosion).

FYI, brass/copper doesn't rust. Rust only happens to iron/steel.

I'd shoot some to see how it goes, but would probably make my own reloads out of it, to get the full effect of the frangible bullets.

Im thinking about buying a batch. I just want to punch paper with them, no HD of course. I might send this question over to the reloaders section to see what damage can be done by water......

I bought 6K primers for $50 at a gun show a few months ago. I'm guessing that they were made in the 50s since. they have wooden dividers in the carboard boxes. Well, it's obvious that they got a little wet at some point because the boxes are sort of glued together. Anyway, the primers work just fine. My main concern would be if the powder got wet and started to deteriorate. That's why I suggest pulling a random sampling of these before attempting to shoot any.

I wouldn't buy it to throw at someone.

Read the reviews, 1 guy shot the stuff and most go bang, but some are squibs. The stuff has oversize primer flash holes and is crimped. So reloading isn't in the cards. With shipping its over $9 a box. The Walmart .40 is around $4 more a box, but it always goes bang and the cases are reloadable. Not in my guns...

If you do shoot it, shoot slowly and be sure to stop and check if something doesn't sound right. A squib stuck in the barrel followed by a live round = bad news for your face, hands, & gun.
