Least expensive way to avoid registration: DFM

The DFM Magazine by Franklin Armory is the cheapest solution on the market for making your AR rifle or pistol 2017 compliant. At $24.99, you can't beat it!

    Here is how it works:

You can purchase it at your local Franklin Armory dealer or at our online store'
Shopify provides a reliable Ecommerce platform so you focus on selling online! Integrated hosting, shopping cart and Ecommerce payment solution all in one!

It is sad that the state created an environment where this is necessary to avoid registration, but it is better than being on the hook for an AW violation.

Future models will be out soon, including a 308 version.

You can use a bb, but there is no advantage. A standard mag release would be easier.

The only mod you would make in order to switch mags would be to remover the follower protrusion on the bolt catch. You would lose the auto bolt hold open, but retain the manual hold open.

I was thinking that it would be best to simply remove the bolt catch, install the dfm mag, then reinstall the bolt catch. That way the bolt hold open is retained. I don't see any problem top-loading the internal magazine with the bolt catch in place, although it probably wouldn't work with stripper clips.

Having to remove the bolt catch in order to remove the magazine also supports the idea that the dfm is not a "readily reversible" workaround, although there is no permanent modification made. It would also keep users from removing the dfm magazine and inadvertently violating the law, by inserting a standard magazine or closing the action without the dfm being reinstalled.

Yes, @franklinarmory, can you clarify. Is the only reason to modify the bolt catch for installation? Or is there more to that? I'd much rather just remove the bolt catch for installation. Takes two minutes.

You can remove the bolt catch, install the DFM, and reinstall the bolt catch without modifying anything. The benefit with trimming back the bold catch is that you can easily change DFM magazines and/or switch from in state to out of state configurations.

I assume the easiest reloading is using stripper clips.

The law says that you have to at least partially dismantle the action to remove it. That would imply that it is legal to remove and or replace the magazine with the action split open.

My Franklin AR shoots 7.72x39 ammo. I use C-defense or ASC 7.62x39 mags for it.

Will this work for 7.62x39? Will you make special mags for those and Grendel too?

We will have those SKUs in the future. Until then, you will have to use a 7.62x39 follower in an existing DFM.

The alternative caliber SKUs are up on the website now. If you click on "5.56 NATO," you should see a drop down menu. I should point out that they have just been put into production, and it will take a few weeks before we can actually ship the alternative SKUs. Clear pictures have been added too: http://franklin-armory.myshopify.com...y-10-round-dfm

We also created a SKU for the DFM Bolt Catch. This is not something that you absolutely need for the DFM. You can reinstall the original bolt catch, or you can modify your original bolt catch. However, if you want a finished solution, here it is: http://franklin-armory.myshopify.com...dfm-bolt-catch The DFM Bolt Catch is ready to ship this week.
