Research Question for you long range shooters

So I have had an idea rattling around inside my brain for sometime, and I think I am finally going to take a run at making a prototype.

So my question is, when shooting long range, be it off a bench or prone, where do you put your support hand? I have seen people shoot with their support hand in a variety of locations, so just curious the most popular.

I use normally have my support hand back at the end of the stock on a squeeze bag, and think I have seen most shoot this way, anyone else have a different preference?

I promise when I have a prototype to show you guys, Ill post up

For 'practical shooting' yes a rear bag or sand sock is the norm.

    For less practical, a monopod.

For truly absurdly stupid impractical... the bench gun sleds.

My hand is up against the front sling swivel when I'm shooting prone.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

That's right!I too place my hand under the hand guard for support.
        Keep it simple!

I'm a sling shooter in competition so my support hand is against the front sling swivel.

When I'm doing load development and shooting from the bench my support hand is at the rear bag.

I need to get a rear bag, for now I've been using my support hand as a make-shift bag in a loose fist under the rear of the stock.

If you are using a sling, then your support arm needs to be up against the sling, underneath the rifle. If you are using a bipod, then your support arm needs to be back near the rear of the stock adjusting for elevation.

Use a tube sock, pour a baseball sized amount of rice in it down to the toes. Twist sock above rice, flip calf section of tube sock back over the toe to hold the twist, and double layer the sock.

Simple and cheap. Rice works well. I like the way it "locks" together under pressure compared to beans or plastic beads.

Change out the rice if the bag gets wet.

Been using the same sock for about 10 years- changed the rice out once...

Some of those larger rectangular bags with lightweight fill come in handy, but feel mushy compared to a rice filled sock.
