How often do you use a Borescope?

So I now have this NTG500 borescope. I'm starting the process of deep cleaning and filming the barrels of all of my rifles. How often do you go in and film follow-ups? When your groups open up, every 500rnds, or what? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9Z4C9aTT7k

Depends on the rifle.

My competition guns, Every time they are cleaned which is after every match.
everything else, When it suits me, I'm not concerned with scoping the bore of most my rifles. Only the match grade ones.

Drat! Those kind of toys excite me. One is on the list. The sad story is that the toys just pile up. I strive for organization.

I use them seldom, but it's a great tool to have on occasion.

Had a friend with a minor bore obstruction... turned out to be a substantial lead deposit on one side of the barrel of a .22 pistol. Once I knew for certain what it was, I was able to deal with it the right way. Have never seen one like that, pretty strange. It was a little scary to think of the .22's having to skirt around that obstacle on their way to the muzzle and freedom.

Got it knocked loose with an allen wrench down the barrel just big enough to pass by the deposit on a flat side. Turning gently but authoritatively dislodged it without too much fuss. Then at least we could get the cleaning jag past it for a proper job of it.

When a new barrel is installed
After break-in cleaning
Every 200 rounds or so looking for carbon ring, etc.
If I have accuracy issues

I've been reading more often of late, competition shooters posting about using these to check for carbon ring buildup in their chamber.

You don't want my used barrels. I run my loads HOT for the most part (6GT pushing 105's at 3004) and run them 2500 rounds before I pull them. Pretty sure they're toast when I'm done with them.

Your barrels are scrap for sure. i'm getting ready to swap barrels of two rifles 6xc with about 1500 rounds down them. They will not be competitive in another match or two.

So there are a couple guys here that don't use a bore scope.

my advice, Don't start. Unless you want another rabbit hole to go down, do not buy, do not consider, do not borrow a bore scope. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine.

Be warned if you should decide to get a bore scope, be prepared for the horror the likes of which you've never seen. It takes some getting use to in knowing what is good, bad and just plain sewer pipe.
