Hello everyone! For those who never heard of California Tactical Academy, we're one of the largest outdoor shooting ranges in CA, open Wed - Sun 8 AM - 4 PM, offering:

• Rifle, pistol, rimfire and shotgun public ranges
• Private ranges
• Weekly shooting competitions
• Training courses for different levels and interests

The public rifle range length is 1000 yards! Entrance is only $20 for the whole day. You can shoot in all public ranges with the fee.

Yeah, it used to be called something else. I went up there under the old owner(s) and it was not the most pleasant time. The closed on Tuesdays and early closing on the days open is a huge reason why I have not tried under the new owners. If I get a half day during the week it is going to be a Tuesday(Which it is for me today.) and between the drive home, pack and then drive out there, not worth it. If they were open until 5pm and on Tuesdays, I would try it.

But I do wish them the best. It takes passion to want to open a range these days.

It was very peaeful when I went almost two years ago. It was on a weekday early morning, very few people shooting.
Only downside for me was that the 1000yard targets were pretty tough to hit, because you can't see where your shots are landing.
Maybe they cleaned it up a bit, so you can see where your shots are hitting.

Thanks for letting us know. We recently added Thursdays so now we're open Wed-Sun 8 AM 5 PM till September, then same days 8 AM - 4 PM.
In the future we're hoping to add Tuesdays so hope to see you then!

Looking at the website, you have a really nice range!
In Norcal, so I shoot Sac Valley.

The picture you posted of the 1000 yards targets looks like a perfect recipe for a grass fire though. The picture may be deceiving, but it looks like dry grass.

I've been there a couple times since C.T.A. took it over from Wes Thompson. It's a great place to shoot. The RO's I've met are easy going but do a good job being sure all the shooters follow safety standards. I do try to pick times when its not likely to be crowded. Rifle range has paper targets out to 400 yard and steel out to 1000. It's nice having a place to shoot long range that's only around an hour drive from me.
