Pendleton LR and Precision Rifle Match pics

A few pics from Saturday and Sunday's matches. About 25 competitors came out for each event. Saturday started off at the 900yd line with light winds and in usual R117 fashion got twitchy and gusting. The mirage was pretty heavy. Santa Margarita Gun Club is hoping to schedule their next one in June, but more likely July.

Sunday's Precision Rifle got off to a late start until the buffalo walked out of the target area. The course of fire was pretty challenging with steel ranging from 300 to 1100 yards. Winds started gusting as usual after 12pm. Quite a few shooters from San Diego Precision Rifle Club were in attendance.

    And a couple more:

We had fun shooting through windows to hit the steel plates on the opposite side of the houses or hidden next to them.

You have to really zoom in to see the windows and doors.

June matches are in the planning stages, around mid-month. Both a Long Range prone and a Precision Practical Rifle. Check later this month at the club website:

I've never been to a precision rifle match before, is it beginner friendly?

The course of fire is challenging, but the people are pretty cool. Everyone is willing to give pointers or lend equipment if they can.

Is it the kind where you have to hump miles through the desert?

There is no hiking involved. The six stages are spread along a 50 yard firing line. You shoot off various obstacles and barricades.

Looks like fun. Oh well, they wouldn't let me on base even if I did schlep all the way out there.
