    Project for ELR

Been working on a project I lovingly refer to as 375 BFG. It is a 375/416. Have got a few rounds down the tube and a bunch more fire formed. Should have the last of my powder tomorrow so I can do some speed/function testing. Gonna try 50BMG, RL50, and US869 powders.

Here are a few loaded rounds next to 375 Cheytac rounds. Both with 361 grain Flat Lines

Its exciting to see the project coming together....

very cool, looking forward to how well it does. Lots of work, but looks promising.
    Yeah.

    I'm pissed.
WTB: Rhodesian A5 FN 12G Shotgun...ah, never mind. Prices have become stupid...
WTB: FN FS2000..don't care anymore about this one either.

I'm running Peterson in Cheytac. It's my first run of brass for wildcat. I didn't want anything expensive or exotic to learn the process.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Best of luck in the inaugural ELRC match being held in your back yard this January.

            Cheers,

Thanks guys. Thanks Lynn for coaching me up on false shoulders and fire forming and the like. It's been and continues to be a learning curve.

Looks like a lot of powder and some big booms

                Good luck at the match!

Thank you sir. Just got back from testing. Still have some work to do on this caliber. I will be running Cheytac for the foreseeable future.

Efficient powder burn will be the key

Got out and shot a few for speed. I did get my 3518 fps that I was looking for, but pressure was too high. Only got to test one powder as it was my slowest powder and I was already seeing pressure when I got to speed. I am going to do some tweaking on throat of the chamber so I can seat bullets longer. see where it lands then.

Not sure what Berger posted about the throat as I am on my phone.
In general you want the bearing surface/boattail junction of the bullet atleast 0.050 out in front of the neck/shoulder junction of your brass.
As you size your brass it tends to grow forward and because of the dimensions it thickens into the base of the neck.
When that happens you get a restriction or Venturi affect that some shooters cutout with a donut cutter.
When you work up a good load and it goes away on you with respect to your extreme spreads this is a good place to look for trouble.
I think Ken at K-M sells a 375 donut cutter.
And try your other powders out before you give up. Most guns shoot more accurately with a slightly faster powder than they do with a slightly slower powder on the burn rate chart.
A 361 grain Flatline at 3400 would be hard to beat if you got any kind of accuracy out of it.

I broke a firing pin or I would've force fed it a few from the other powders! 😜
