New setup (actually VERY new), where do I go from here UPDATE PICS

I decided to break into some mid-long range work with a bolt action dedicated rifle. I have a precision semi, but I want to really reach out.

I'd like to play at 600-1000 yards.

With some help from JMP and Randall, I have done some shopping. Any deviation from their advice so far is on me. I do appreciate their help.

    I bought a NIB Remington SS 5R, 24" barrel in .308
    Bushnell Tactical Elite 3.5x21x50 scope
    Nightforce steel rail 20 moa
    TPS low steel rings
    Badger Bolt Knob
    Timney 510 trigger
    3 port Brake from Ross
    DITCHED THE KARSTEN
USO anti cant rail mounted level.
I have a couple Harris bipods laying around.

I plan to keep the current HS Precision stock and add the cheek piece to get a good consistent cheek weld. I added a home made one to my 10/22 and it made a huge difference with a 50mm scope.

UPDATE, decided the cheek piece wasnt going to cut it, so before i effed up the new stock, i swapped it for a B and C fully adjustible model with AI spec bottom metal.

I am looking at a Redding Premium Series 3 die set, using the FL sizer only when chambering becomes difficult. These come with a FL and neck sizer, and a micrometer seating die. This one.

    I have a wft trimmer.

This will be used in a rock chucker supreme single stage, and I have a Lyman electronic dispenser to measure and weigh each charge.

I bought some 175gr GMM ammo, mostly for the brass, and to see how the heavier bullets play with the 11.2 twist rate. I have some 168 SMKs that I can load up, too.

    Powder is 4064.

I pick up the rifle tomorrow...and hope to take it to Randall some time in the next few weeks.

I mean, I know practice is the next step, but I don't have possession of the rifle yet, and it needs some work before shooting it.

How is Angeles Crest for the mid range work? My other option seems to be high desert marksmen?

Anyone in LA/OC Weigh in on which is better?

    Thanks

After you trim your brass with that WFT. Measure the overall length and see if it's consistent.
I have those dies but I use my RCBS trimmer. Also take some extra money with you to randall's in case you need a bolt tune after Installing the new trigger.
I changed the stock to a B&C stock. It was a lot more comfortable to me.

This stock changes the angle of you grip and trigger pull is a lot more comfortable.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
    I'm Back.

I got a Milspec 5R about 15 years ago. It is a 7.62x51. The FGMM brass seems too small for my Milspec's chamber. But, M118LR ammo fits perfectly. One of the most accurate rifles I own. I'm using new Lake City LR brass, 175gn Sierra Match Kings, Wolf LR primers, and Varget. The best accuracy loads run about 2640 FPS.

The hammer forged bore is unique. Maybe Randal will let you view it with his borescope.

      Cheers,

I had great results with 2000mr and a 175smk. Something to try if the 4064 doesn't do the trick.

Glad to see you did it right and got the fully adjustable stock. I have a B&C with a kydex riser now. While it works, its kind of a PITA.

I've been running 4064 for a few years without issue. It seems to run a bit hotter than varget, so you'll run just tad less.
