Lynn posted this question in another URSA thread and I wanted to keep the topics separate. His post was:
"Facilitator
Can you go over qualifying for the upcoming 3k match?
I have been getting questions from some of the 50 BMG shooters on qualifying and how the match will be shot.

To the ".50 BMG shooters" question - again, guessing here - there was some discussion previously on CG about "legal" issues of where .50 BMG can be shot in the state and visitors from out of state bringing in .50 BMG rifles. [Variants are no issue, e.g., DTCs, .50 cal Improved, and other versions based on .50 BMG brass.] I am not a lawyer and am not prepared to engage one to offer an opinion. What I can say is that, to the best of my knowledge, .50 BMG rifles have previously been transported to and shot at both URSA CA venues. Details "issues" follow:
1. Part of the issue concerns whether the shooter came to the event directly without an overnight stop and returned directly without an overnight stop. I cannot address that (did it happen) as I do not know for a fact. "Supposedly" there are not suppose to be any overnight stops - just straight to and straight back. [Folks considering coming in from out of state might plan on staying near the CA border the night before, and, if necessary, after the shoot. Drive in for the day and drive back out the same day with NO overnights.] Sorry for my total ignorance on this matter but I'm assuming folks can legally stop for gas and food.
2. Is URSA an organized group such that we can hold an event where .50 BMG shooters can participate? URSA is organized (IMHO) but we are not incorporated or otherwise formed as a legal entity - no memberships, no fees, no hand stamps, no secret salutes.
3. Does URSA carry insurance? Is URSA or are its events bonded? We do not and are not, respectively. Everyone signs a release and we go forward.
4. Whose land do we shoot on? Not 100% sure - it appears either BLM or owned by the utility company, or other entity, that maintains the adjacent power lines.
My bottom line - do your own due diligence and proceed accordingly. IF you feel our events are not "legal", please do not express that opinion (legal or otherwise) on this forum. And please do not PM me. Please contact Lynn or me at our URSA e-mail addresses - rd-southwest@unlimitedrange.org for Lynn and webmaster@unlimitedrange.org for me. Thank you.
