If your eyesight is going go with the biggest front post you can.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

I remember when there was only one ar15 A2 on the line during the 1984 Cal. State service rifle championships.

Harrased by all the M1A and Garand shooters.

Ain't that the one that got left on the 200 yard line because the competitor didn't know how to mortar it??!

Lets get with it boys, the correct aperture is now a 4.5 power scope.

I bought my first HBAR as soon as they came out, I wasn't having much luck with it but my highmaster buddy was shooting little clusters with a stock Colt barrel. I kept shooting my M14.

I did some math a few years back and came up with .050" front post, to be the same sight picture with the M16 sight radius, as an M1 with .072" NM or an M14 with .062" NM with their respective radii. .050 worked for me for quite a few years. Then my eyes got older.

Standard width ar front sight is best for us older vision impaired shooters. Brackets the std. Target frame at 600 yards for better left right target alignment.

Do I need to use a sight black spray to help with the sights?

Blackening the sights is important, and you'll find some days it's obvious how much of an improvement you get. Other days it's not obvious but your scores will be higher anyway.

Sight black spray promotes rust so make sure you scrub it off the tower with a tooth brush. Carbide lamps are better, both in the depth of black and the fact that it doesn't promote rust (you still need to clean if off or it will cake up and not be sharp), but carbide lamps are a bit of a pain.

Any recommendation of a carbide lamp?

RayVin...self contained water and carbide compartments.Just turn knob ,this gives the carbide some water, hit striker. This setup is the best out there.
                        Keep it simple!

Ray vin is the only recommendation.

I believe that was in 1990 when a guy named d. Jones left his loaded cartridge/chamber stuck AR on the 300 yard line because he did not know how to clear his rifle.
