    SIG P229 SRT TRIGGER PROBLEM

So I just finished installing the Short reset trigger AND the short reach trigger into my SIG P229.

I put everything back together. First shot, the hammer falls. When I fire DA or SA for the second shot, the second trigger pull would not do anything. The hammer would not fall. It just stays where it's at. The trigger goes back and forth, but with no weight.

Here's the thing, I take off my E2 grips, and then it starts to work again. I put it back on, then it stops working like how I stated in the previous paragraph.

What's going on? I disassembled and reassembled everything thrice. Please help!

I don't have a P229 but have several P228s, I'm no engineer but it sounds like there is something in the right grip when you tighten it down that is blocking the safety??

I have the E2 grips. I don't think the safety comes in contact with the grips. I'm suspecting that it's the trigger bar spring, but I'm not exactly certain. I don't know how to test and see if that is the problem since putting the grips on obscures my view of the spring. Can anyone support the idea that this might be the case?

When you take off your grip take a look at your trigger bar spring it should look like this below. After you initially pull the trigger (and gun goes bang), the trigger bar spring should rebound the trigger bar to reengage the notch at the bottom of the hammer. Sometimes people put the trigger bar spring back backwards or upside down. Or it could possibly be broken.

In the next pic, If you push down on the trigger bar notch that sticks just above the frame (where the arrow is pointing) does the second trigger pull feel like that? That is because while you hold down on the notch it is preventing the trigger bar from reengaging back to the hammer notch. Which would make the trigger pull have no resistance.

The trigger bar spring is actually supposed to go in the notch at the bottom of the trigger bar. The new trigger bars don't even have the hole that its in, in the above picture. Definitely sounds like the trigger is not resetting, check the spring

Can you upload a pic of your trigger bar and spring? The trigger bar spring must attach at some point in order to rebound the trigger bar.

whoa, your trigger bar spring looks weird. like drew stated, mine is hooked onto the very bottom left hook on your picture. I'm sure I have it installed correctly.

I pushed down on the trigger bar notch that stick above the frame like you told me to. Yes, that's what it feels like, except the trigger would go all the way back to the wall. the weight feels exactly like this however. Still, the problem lies with the grips being on. When the grips are off, the trigger works fine.

You guys are right, the trigger bar spring was installed incorrectly. It should be hooked underneath the notch towards the bottom.

I took my E2 grip off and on a couple times and once it seemed like it was doing what you were saying. Once I took the grip off I noticed that the trigger bar spring was disengaged from the grip rubbing against it when I slipped it on. I installed the grip back on sliding it from the rear of the gun towards the muzzle and It seemed to fix the issue.

When putting on the one piece E2 grips, one has to be very careful not to have the grip push the trigger return spring out of the way.

End of the spring should go to the bottom notch of the transfer bar, so picture above is incorrect.

After trying the E2 grip I switch back to the original 2 piece grip. While the E2 grip seems to fit well and grip better, I shoot better with the original 2 piece...
