    Blue remover!!!

I have used taco bell sauce or white vinaigrette to remove it.
Parkerizing Too. Well I wanted to strip my model 12 shotgun.
(It's been cut front and back). (Not by me). So I wanted to strip only the out side not the inside. I mixed corn starch and vinegar 30 second in the microwave and put on the metal hot. With in 2 min. 0000 steel wool it's all off.

Thats what we used as kids when we worked for Sam Fowler in Orange in the 60s.

Always came home smelling like Italian dressing. (For days)

Interesting. I have seen blood take blue off a gun but not Taco Bell sauce.

Is the corn starch used just to thicken the solution or does it have chemical properties that aid in removing the blue?

Just to thicken. This will help with holding in place while the vinegar dose it's job. In liquid form I find that I have to submerge a part. In this case the original finish will be better than mine so I did not want to damage it.

White wine will work on an Ithaca 37 Featherweight.

Anything acidic will remove blueing. Orange/Lemon juice, Vinegar, toilet bowl cleaner, Coca Cola, Salsa, Tomato Paste, Naval Jelly, etc. I use a 10% solution of water and muriatic pool acid. If in a hurry go 25%. Dip and gone. Rinse well with hot water no matter what you use.

Note........the diluted muriatic acid mix will NOT harm good steel or iron. It only reacts with "oxides". Rust is "ferrous oxide". Blueing is a "passive oxide".

Have used salty lemon juice. Works fast too.
