Flashider/brake fabbing and sexy 80% lower mods....

I'm building another 9mm AR type carbine, and decided to spend a little extra time on some mods.

1st.... the offerings of 1/2x36tpi muzzle devices sucks.
Not that a 9mm carbine needs help with recoil, but I wanted something different on the end.

The 9mm barrel I have is using 1/2x36 muzzle thread. So.....
I had an A2 style flash hider laying around that is 1/2x36, so let's make it different and unique.
Used the TIG to fill in 3 of the openings around the top, leaving the side cuts open.
I enlarged the side cuts, added a thick washer on the end, and ran a bead around it with the TIG. Then I smoothed the welds out.
It will be sandblasted and get some kind of coating this week.

    Next was the lower.
The 9mm lowers for colt mags have a big hunk of unused area on the front of the magwell.
I figured I could lighten it up with a few end mill reliefs.
The cuts get slightly deeper as they drop down the magwell creating a slightly angled look.

I may go a little deeper on the cuts, or add a bigger radius to the corners....or not.

The top lower is an unmodified one.....the bottom is the cut one.

I just picked one up before I saw your reply. Don't know if it would be worth it. I needed a 9mm break for a pistol build but I saw a 3 prong retro I wanted. I mean 20 bucks right

Yeah It'd be a bit more then that to mod and existing brake and significantly more to make one from solid

And it appears Toddh only got a few days suspension. It has happened to a lot of us.

Lots of time and love went into that. Hard to put a price on that. Welcome back Todd! Nice handy work. Would love to see what else you have been doing in the 9mm ar format. I'm building a 9mm pistol as we speak with an 8.5" cmmg barrel. And I also happen to live in good ole vista.
