    AK rear sight spring

Need to replace the rear sight spring which has lost its spring.
The spring is not broken and in one piece.
What are the tricks and tips for removal and replacement?
I have tapped it forward but cannot quite get it out.
    Thanks

Have you already removed the rear sight? If so, it should just pull out. There is no reason to tap anything.

Grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it out....

lift up the sight till you can see the edge of the spring. press it down with a tiny screwdriver pull the sight off. takes some finesse.
there is a video on u tube that shows a drill press method to push the spring down. if you do it that way wear a full face shield for when the little dill bit explodes into 900 pieces.
(don't ask how I know that)

you can re heat treat the spring too.

once you get it out bend it a little more put a bit of a curve in it.

Heat it up till it glows red then dunk it in a can of oil.

pul it out cool it off and clean it until it's nice and shiny bare metal. then gently and slowly heat it until it turn blue. then leave it cool.

should be as good as new.
