    Non functional 1911

Looking for a really cheap or non functional 1911 style pistol to practice complete breakdown/re-assembly/basic smith work.

Wilł never be shot, just a learning tool.

Any ideas on a place that would stock something like that?

Great idea, but they don't have the same internals

Some are exact replicas aside from firing pin capability/hole and small size differences from what I gather

        Also consider a blank gun.

The action is pretty much the same

But at that cost ... just buy or build a real one.

Second option is to find a friend who has one.

Just buy a TM frame and a Sarco kit. Borrow someone's jig and drill the hammer/seer pin holes. Plenty to learn there...

... then when you get cocky you can file the slide rails and barrel seat by hand if you don't have a mill. Worst case is you bugger up a $160 frame but still have a parts kit you could drop in a new frame, or sell the parts kit in the market pretty much at cost.

$400 total, give or take, and you end up with a functional gun if you learned right

Good luck. 1911 work is addicting. And the more you learn, the more you realize there is more to learn... you have been warned, heh

Just buy a RIA, Armscor, or other cheaper gun. Mess around with it, and then sell it for more than you paid!
