I bought this kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/161388180869...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
It's worked fine. Made for the purpose. Could probably piece one together cheaper but I liked that it came as a piece. To each their own. I also bought the AR15 armorers kit it was kind of expensive but as with all tools buy nice or buy twice. Add a c-clamp so you can clamp the vice to a desk or table with the kit and you are GTG.
LPK's.... huge variety. Shop around can be had under $50 but are super basic mil-spec. Can spend so much $$$ it's crazy. Not much difference between the $80 mil-spec LPK and the $50 one IMHO.
Only furniture difference that seems to be a big deal to me is the grip. I like the Hogue. Try one they are cheap.
Online tutorial just search web. Think I found mine over on arf in pdf.Comment

I thought Midway's video library was pretty good.
AR15 has a nice step to step guide.
A lot of 1st timers stress over the lower assembly, but if you take your time, watch the videos, it'll go together fairly easy.
If you decide to build your upper/barrel - you'll need additional tools like a torque wrench, barrel nut tool (part of the AR tool you should already have if you're going to build), vice, and receiver block or barrel extension torque tool.
As for furniture, the sky is the limit. I would recommend you find AR15 picture threads here and on other forums to see what other's have built. It'll give you some ideas but remember the value of this platform is being able to customize everything. For every part on the AR there are dozens of manufactures, and within every manufacture another dozen variation - it leads to a mind boggling number of options.Comment

Is google and bing not working ???I am looking for advice on:
1) best online source to buy a lower parts kit.
2) best online source to buy a correct set of brass punches and the special wrench head needed for AR assembly. ANY OTHER (out of ordinary) tools needed?
3) best online tutorial for AR assembly.
4) recommendations for online "furniture" (stock, grip, etc) sets that are a good deal?
Thanks in advance.
Seriously....these are not really gunsmithing questions or topics.
This is you not wanting/bothering to SEARCH for the best prices on things you need to get for yourself.
So...get off your azz, and do some of your own work.
That means ....SEARCH the deals section. SEARCH the gunsmithing section. SEARCH amazon. SEARCH midway. SEARCH youtube.....etc, etc.

PSA has the best deal for lower part kit includes buffer tube and stock and I have not found anywhere cheaper. I bought all kind of tools but never used any accept armorer's wrench to lock the nut.
You tube is your best friend for assembly.........watch out for detent spring and pin flying out and disappear on you.

1) GoogleOriginally posted by buckallredThanks for all the helpful info, excepting those last 2, which would only be helpful if the topic were "How to act like a *****" or "Internet posting for PMSing women 101."
2) Google
3) Google
4) Google
If you need people to spoon feed you info, you may want to seriously rethink assembling your own rifle. Best to get a friend who has done it before so that you don't have things going kaboom on you.Comment

Well there is this at the top of the forum...
lower parts kits ares pretty much the same...short of a fancy trigger, which u can add/change later so find one at midwayusa, Riflegear, etc.
Get a bullet button at the same seller.
Buy an AR punch and hammer kit from the same seller.
Figure out which grip and stock you want and buy the appropriate buffer tube/spring and buffer to match at the same seller. This you will have to decide for yourself by doing a little research on whether you want a collapsible (carbine) or fixed stock (rifle). If your are going cheap...Magpul MOE
This way you can save on shipping as they will all ship together.
And follow either the link or a YouTube video to assemble...both my to teenaged sons and my teenaged daughter were able to assemble their lowers while watching a YouTube video...so the question you have to ask yourself is...are you smarter and more mechanically inclined than a ninth grade girl???
If you want me to search the Internet for the best deal for you...you are dreaming as I am more of a shop at Riflegear for everything AR kind of guy so I don't have to worry about buying knockoff junk...not a spend an hour trying to save a dollar cheapskate.Comment

The answers to most of the questions asked throughout CalGuns could be found on the sources you quote. Of course people ask the same questions, and many could find the answers just searching the custom CalGuns Google function. If they just used Google there would be a couple technical questions asked a week and CalGuns would be a lonely place. Is google and bing not working ???

Instead of the homepage having an "Enter the Forums" button it would just say "Please search Google, Amazon and YouTube Before you Bother the Rest of Us."Sig Sauer Certified Armorer, P-Series Pistols

Weird...I got a safe full of AR's and other firearms.
Never once started a thread asking for others to do my research for me.
I spend hours reading and searching for the things I need.
Then I spent the time learning where to buy and how to build it.
I guess I'm one of those people that spends the time educating myself rather than asking others to do my work for me.
That what separates those that do from those that don't.
And then you have the balls to compare me to a woman that is having her cycle ??
Seriously ??
Kinda makes you look like a small, petty person, that also denigrates women. Stay classy man.
Go post that crap in the ladies section of the forum....see the response you get with your ignorant and sexist comments.
And don't worry...plenty of guys will be here soon to hold your hand while you "figure things out".
So...be mad all you want. Say all the dumb stuff you want.
It just means you refuse to help yourself, or educate yourself.
You just depend on others to solve your probs.
Heck of a way to go through life....
