    AR Selector knob

Just done with assemblying my lower. Is it normal for me not to be able to turn the selector knob to SAFE from the FIRE position when the hammer is NOT cocked? I followed assembly instructions to the letter and the function tests specified all pass and everything looks ok. I'm just not sure if I'm supposed to be able to keep the selector in SAFE mode when storing the gun. Please excuse my ignorance if this is an obvious norm but I just want to be sure my assembly is correct with respect to this. The upper assembly is off during all this.

I also put a Geisselle Trigger in this lower carefully. The first stage feels somewhat gritty. The disconnector is not dragging on the selector slot, I've disassembled it three times to insure there are no friction/drag marks on any part of the selector slot (along its sides) after triggering it many times. This grittyness is only felt when the hammer is cocked. Anyone with experience similar to this? What can be done about it? Thanks in advance.

you dont need the safety if the hammer is down

so its a pretty good signal if it wont on safe that something is up since the only ways the hammer will be down is if you drop the hammer on an empty chamber (a magazine/bolt stop malfunction or you have a dud cartridge

You should only be able to move the selector when the hammer is cocked.

      I haven't installed a Geisselle before.

If the hammer is released, then the gun is already in "safe" mode

Sounds like your lower is working properly. You should NOT be able to put the selector into safe while the hammer is vertical.

I have a Geissle trigger in one of my rifles, and am very happy with it.

I do not have any first stage grittiness like you describe, mine is quite smooth.

You say you've dissassembled and reassembled several times, so I assume you've cleaned everything off in case some foreign material got caught up into the works.

Assuming a close inspection with a magnifying glass does not reveal obvious imperfections on the bearing surfaces you may simply need to do a little break in to get rid of that problem.

And like yours, my selector will not engage safe when the hammer is down.
