1911 80% frames for .45 only?

Newbiw question... Are 80% frames universal.. Caliberwise?

yep. Caliber is pretty much determined by the slide and main spring used.

There may be instances where a certain mags won't fit in a 45 frame

As mentioned above, the frame is universal. Parts that are different includes:

- slide
- extractor
- barrel
- ejector
- slide stop
- firing pin
- main spring
- recoil spring

Assuming you're switching between something drastic such as 45ACP to 9mm.

Just make sure you're getting non-ramped barrel if you aren't ready to make mods to the frame.

Yep

OP keep in mind you only asked if a 45 ACP frame would work you never asked how much work was involved. A ramped barrel is a whole other ball game.

Depends if they are for Government size which is 5" Barrel.
Commander Size with 4 1/4" Barrel.
Officer Size with 3 1/2" Barrel.
then you have different Mainspring housings for different size frames.
And as said already different Calibers, which require different slides and internals.
9mm and 38 Super, and 7.62X25 Tokarev fit the same slide.
45ACP and 460 Rowland and 400 COR -BON fit the same slide.
