    Bench Mount Drill Press

How is this for a cheap DP for my 80% lowers? Any recommendations that may be slightly better <$150

    They have 8", 10", and 12"
I have no clue what that means or how I'm going to do this? But I'm going to give it a try.

    saw this: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1015082

But didn't want to thread jack

Might want to check these guys out... Watch the video.
You could probably get a small router and corded drill for around $150.00
We stock AR15 lower jigs from models like our Easy Jig to our Universal Drill Press. See what AR15 jigs we have for your 80% lower build right here!

I think it refers to the "throat distance" from the column to the quill. So as you probably already assumed, it refers to size.

In another drill press thread I pointed this out:

More pricey, but once you get a table to do machine work and chase down oddball morse taper tooling for a drill press, it starts making more sense.

Tooling to get rid of the drill chuck?

Thanks Gents. That 80% Arms might be what I'm leaning towards! I have a drill, no router. I could just rent one from Home Depot.

Does that Jig kit work on Anderson Manufacturing 80%? If no one knows, I'll just contact them...

OP, skip the HF drill press for this project.
I recently purchased their 8" drill press and it really isn't up to the task. If you intend to use this DP for anything other than just straight plunge drilling you will be disappointed.

I wish I had purchased the Ryobi drill pres that I saw a Home Depot. It was a bit more, but no doubt better quality, and more suitable for light "milling".

Hello DevilDawgJJ - You are good to go with the Anderson lowers. We also have 80% lowers that come with our goof proof warranty. In the unlikely event you make a mistake finishing our lower with our Easy Jig, we'll provide you with a replacement lower at 50% off.

We second what Inplainsight has to say about the HF drill press. Often you can find used better quality name brand tools on Craig's List for less than what you will pay for the HF tool. There is a chance the HF DP will have excessive run-out. (The one we tested did.)

Keep in mind the Easy Jig has a very beefy drill guide block and side walls designed so you can complete your lower using a standard hand drill. A drill press is optional. As far as routers are concerned, the compact Porter-Cable and DeWalt routers work great. They are available at Amazon:

Awesome! Thanks for your reply. I will be getting one of your jig's, and you drill bit set (I obviously don't have any, and I don't want to shop around for them individually). I saw that home Depot had one of these for sale. Would this be Good-To-Go? http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-1-...9?N=5yc1vZc2h2

^ I bought the Rigid @ Home Depot and used it on 2 lowers, so far it has held up really good. Plus it has a lifetime warranty. Good luck, Semper Fi !

It has more than double the power needed yet it is not much larger than the others. We have not tested that specific router, but the specs and features are nice. Don't see why it would not do the job. Biglou also seems happy with it, so I'd go for it!

Please let us know how you like that router. One of the routers we recommend, the Dewalt, is being discontinued. We may be looking for another router to replace the Dewalt as one of our recommended routers.

That router looks like it would do the trick.

The Bosch colt does a great job. I highly recommend that router

I got these for $100 on black Friday. Looks big online but very small and compact. Very happy with the purchase.

I don't see that Dewalt available, but Amazon is currently running a promo for Dewalt tools and I saw this: http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DW616-4...FCC0CMYSYCW6DY

I know this is overkill but the price is right. Would it work well, or will the size be a problem?

If I were looking to do an 80 on a "not mill", and I wanted to cheap out and spend $150 on tooling, you can bet your arse I would be on craigslist waiting for the most powerful floorstanding drill press I could find to get dumped by whomever.
