Specify that the time above 800 degrees F should be minimized as much as possible.
    Randall Rausch

    AR work: www.ar15barrels.com
    Bolt actions: www.700barrels.com
    Foreign Semi Autos: www.akbarrels.com
Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
    Most work performed while-you-wait.

Be Extremely careful doing nitriding like Melonite on used barrels as any trace of copper in the barrel will cause a extremely rapid corrosion of the inside of the barrel, to the point of making it unsafe to shoot from the pitting.

You also run the risk of dimensional changes as well as not being able to wear in the barrel afterwards. The other problem is that nitriding actually makes stainless steel a lot less corrosion resistant to the point of almost rusting as fast as normal steel.

So shoot a few hundred round first, use a extremely good copper remover and make sure to seriously scrub and flush out the barrel.

You could also hot blue the barrel if all you want it is have it black in color but long lasting.

Try Accurate Heat treating I believe in Anaheim.

They are the only "local place I would trust to do the work.

One problem that no one mentioned is Heat treat shops like to know exactly what alloy they are dealing with and if the alloy as any modifiers in it like a proprietary alloy. You need to see if the manufacture will tell you it's exact alloy.
        I'm guessing it's 416BQ

But if all you want is a black barrel I'd just find someone that has the correct hot salts tank.

oh by the way www.burlingtoneng.com is going to charge you $300 for that barrel to be treated. They usually treat to 1025 deg F and will want to know what the heat treat is on the barrel is currently
you may want to just px coat that barrel it will cost you less. contact me for rates
