    AR Upper/Barrel Play?

I have a carbon-fiber carbine upper that has a wee bit of play between the metal barrel/chamber and CF. If you twist the handguard/barrel, there is about 1mm of movement LtR. And it is NOT a loose handguard or sight block. Looking through the ejection port, I can see the tiny movement between the chamber and CF. Is this something that be tightened or has there been some sort of separation between the CF and the barrel that is a real problem?

Same thing was happening on my Stag (probably because of my attempts to remove FH). Anyway, thought it was because I had messed up the slot where the barrel locator "stub" slides into. Turns out it was just a loose barrel crown nut. Quick tighten with wrench and all was good again.

+1 my barrel nut came loose as well.little blue loctite and some elbow grease.
      I would start there.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

It's abnormal for the barrel extension to move within the reciever.
Certainly a sign of a loose barrel nut.

I had a stag in my shop tonight with a loose barrel nut.
The gas tube was also worn out because of this.

Inspect your gas tube while you have it off to torque the barrel nut down.
If it's worn on one side like the picture below, replace it.

Great minds think alike. (Well, yours is great, mine is aspiring.)
I'd actually not fully realized my problem until two days ago when I removed the standard sight tower and installed a YHM flip-up sight block. I'd also bought a new tube since I was going to the trouble of removing the old one. So I'm set there.
Thanks for the pic as well, that's instructive for the future.

Well, the wrench did the trick. A very slight turn to the right tightened things up.
I've reassembled, but now have to get out to the range to check that the gas block is lined up properly with the hole in barrel.
Can't be sure till I shoot it!
The YHM flip front sight is sweet and nicely matches my YHM rear sight.
