Cold blue to touch up parkerized finish?

Is this a good idea, or would this ruin the parkerizing that was done already? I'm talking for scratches, nicks, etc that you want to make sure gets covered by something so rusting doesn't set in (rusting aside from bluing, that is )

Cold Bluing a totally different process than Parkerizing and while it should not damage the parkerized finish it will discolor it.

FYI Cold Bluing is just a metal colorant and offers no real rust protection like slow rust or hot bluing does. Just keep the areas well oiled with a thick gun oil and you should have no rust issues.

Try Birchwood Casey Aluminum touch up. If done right, you can't tell the difference. Been doing this for 20 years.

It wouldn't matter as to what type the metal is? Would work on steel?

Edit: would it provide protection like hot bluing or is it just the same as cold bluing?

Yes it works on steel, hence the Parkerizing touch-up. It is a cold blue type of touch-up, but seems to protect well.
