    Stainless steel barrel scrubbies?

The article by Tom Gaylord, he shows a closeup of a cleaning pad he bought at a gunshow, he says it removes rust and does not harm the bluing (he is using it with ballistol).

What I want to know is if this is the same thing which can be purchased in any supermarket, an ordinary stainless steel pot scrubber?

    Thanks!

    Pretty much is

The thing is Steel wool has been known for years to be a good rust remover and it will not harm the bluing as long as gentle pressure is used and you don't get carried away with scrubbing the crap out of the gun. The finer the grade the better. What he is using is pretty course.

Plain old steel wool work just fine. and if it's on a very delicate and expensive firearm use brass wool.

Any oil will do as well. no need for $99 an once snake oil.

I use 4-0 steel wool and /or bronze wool and Rem-Oil to remove light rust without damage to the bluing. Any light oil would work. Easy does it and light pressure.

No need to buy anything other than a few drops of oil and a nickel. Just put a drop of oil on the rust spot and rub with the edge of a nickel until the rust is gone.

I have had surprisingly good results removing light rust with a coarse rag and motor oil. I don't make any claims about why it works. I just rub hard and keep moving to a clean part of the rag and keep rubbing.
