    norinco 84s ar mag conversion

I need some help from you guys. I have a norinco 84s chambered in .223, and for obvious reasons involving the lack of proprietary magazines being readily available, I would like to convert it to accept ar mags. I am particularly interested in using the canis bastard to do it.

The reason I need someones informed input is that the Norinco 223 AK's has the magazine mounted low to clear the standard 7.62x39 bolt carrier. In order to feed a smaller diameter round from the lowered magazine the 223 Norinco bolt has an extended feed lug on it's bottom side. Due to this extended bolt lug a bullet guide can't be used(because the extended lug would actually run into the proposed bullet guide if one was mounted on the trunnion) so the magazine is designed to feed without a bullet guide on the trunnion by having a ramp/guide built into the front of the magazine that properly aligns the rounds into the breech.

I have done much searching on the internet as well as searching many forums but I have not been able to find the information I need.

Basically, will my 84s function with a mag adapter in lieu of a bullet guide?

If no one can tell me definitively, then my next course of action is to do it and see. After that, I'll make sure and tell you guys all about what happened, why, etc. So, anybody done this before?
P.s. sorry for posting the latter half of my post in a reply. Didn't mean to confuse. I'm not a techy.

You really are going to do that to your factory built $1500+ reg'd (I assume) AW?

Sell it out of state, buy a saiga-223 and bubba it to hell and back if you want.

I understand your logic and appreciate your suggestion. I do. I've considered this but I would rather convert the weapon I'm familiar with and trust. So the question still stands and, truthfully, I don't expect anyone to give me a definitive answer. I realize few own an 84s and fewer, if any, have converted it, but thanks to all who could possibly help with a suggestion or two.

You have a fairly rare and desirable collector-grade rifle if it hasn't been Bubba'ed and azzed up already with "refinishing" and tacky-queer sheeit- why dick with it?

The magazines are scarce and not as cheap as a standard 7.62X39 magazine, but they are out there. I have seen several for sale on AK Files and AK Forum recently, and recently traded one I had for some 5.45 magazines I needed.

It's like owning a G43 or an SVT-40 - magazines are hard to find and kind of pricey, but it's just something you learn to live and deal with, and acquire magazines as funds and/or opportunity allow.
