Will anyone help me with the proper procedure for indexing a muzzle brake with a jam nut? Do I still need to use a crush washer or peel washer?

Nope. Just tighten the brake as far as it will go, while making sure the brake is not canted on the barrel, then tighten up the jam nut behind it. A little lok-tite on the threads will help as well."I kill things for a living, don't make yourself one of them" -
Ah - the tough part for me. Tighten, look - damn it's of. Loosen and tighten again - damn, too far.
FWIW, I put a small piece of tape on the barrel & pen mark the top center, do the same with the brake & line them up.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

Throw out the jam nut.
Index by machining or use a crush washer.
Lemme guess...
DPMS miculek comp.
I drill out the rear section on those and tap the rest of the way into the first port.Randall Rausch

As was guessed (oops) by AR and assumed by me that you were using, mine was a Miculik comp which of course comes with the AR standard 1/2 X 28 lock nut. I suppose you could buy a thread protecter & thin it, but a peel washer is probably best.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
