    SSE out bolt conversions in?

We all know the ability to SSE a handgun is coming to am end very soon. The way I read the law is that break top and bolt pistols will still be exempt. A break top conversion doesnt seem remotely possble for a semi auto. With that said it seems there is already one company making bolt conversions for glock.

I post this here, because it doesn't seem like something that would be terribly difficult to produce for many handguns. Does anyone see what would stop someone from making these type for handguns...creating the next viable avenue to obtaining on off roster handgun?

Sure, there's a little engineering involved, and a fair bit more expensive than current SSE methods, but we know its not likely to stay on top of anyone's gun for long, so it could be huge, ugly as all sin, fire only one round without dissasebly to remove the casing, but who would really care once they put the original slide back on?

They would have to be made that way from the start

That pistol would have to be for a left handed shooter. :-)

None of our other SSE pistols were manufactured with crazy long barrels or blocked off magazines though....and if it only shoots one round, its not really semi auto as originally configured, its a single shot? Or am I looking at this all wrong?

Can't 07 ffl's get off roster guns and perform gunsmithing work on them? I suppose doing these conversions may make them a manufacturer, but wouldn't they be manufacturing exempt pistols and thereby legal?

Come to think of it, what really defines a bolt action as a bolt action...over say a semi auto that can only shoot one round? The manually operated action? What if the slide was locked into place somehow and a bolt must be rotated to allow it to be racked for a follow up shot? Wouldn't that make it a pistol who's action must be manually cycled after every shot?

Currently there is nothing preventing conversation to single shot and that is how everyone is working the single shot exemption. Starting in 2015, the single shot exemption disallows semi autos which have been temporarily or permanently converted to single shot.

The MANUFACTURER would have to start playing ball to make this happen.

Ship it built as a bolt action manual, and you send in the upper later to swap for a semi top end. I wouldn't hold my breath- better off waiting for SB15 to die a slow lawsuit death.

So the only way around this would be for your FFL to buy the pistol direct from the manufacturer "un-finished" for the purpose of further manufacturing? Well, I suppose that'll never happen.

So basically we're stuck overturning the roster, or convincing the manufacturers to produce handguns in what is now SSE form and we'd pony up the cash for semi-auto kits from them as well....the later which again, would have already happened if it ever was going to.

That said, couldn't a manufacturer do that if they chose to, even if the semi-auto kit had to be sold separately?

That's because none of our other SSE pistols were sold after 1/1/2015.

Ok, ok, I get it. I just needed to read the bill more carefully.

"The bill would make this exemption inapplicable to a semiautomatic pistol that has been temporarily or permanently altered so that it will not fire in a semiautomatic mode. By expanding the definition of a crime, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program."

I.E. - This bill expands upon the definition of a crime to include the purchace or import of any handgun which had been arbitrarily deemed to be "unsafe" and then altered in such a manner that will render it safe.

                      Incorrect

At no time did the state determine the weapon to be unsafe. It's just not as safe as they want it to be.

You are not modifying the weapon to meet the safety standards they set in place. You are modifying the weapon to be exempt from the safety standards.

Once exempt there was no restriction on converting to a non rostered semi auto because it was the condition of the weapon at the time of transfer. What you did with it when you got home was your own business and at the time no law existed that prevented you from converting to semi.

Which brings up the subject. A few Local gun stores seem to thing that an 80% frame will still be legal to build a semi auto pistol on after Jan 1 2015,

The statement was "That (meaning the safe hand gun roster) is merely a contract between dealers manufacturers and the DOJ, it has no effect on the private individual".

I could not believe my ears. Then he went on to tell me thats how AR pistols are able to be built and sold in this state?????? WTF

Thats why I never stop long enough in a gun shop to talk to anyone

If I'm not bumping into a zombie hunter, a Apocalypse prepper, the tin foil hat crowd in general then I'm bumping into a gun shop owner that has no business with an FFL
Everyone here that has read any number of my posts know I Call BS immediately when I see it. I have the same trait in real life. It is far to difficult to try an not start an argument with these idiots so i have to just ignore things i hear an walk out.

Sure they did. They deemed ALL handguns to be unsafe untill proven otherwise through their roster certification scheme. That why the roster is literally called a list of "not unsafe" handguns.

They changed the law to preclude any weapon from being even permanently altered to an exempt state, simply because it was previously considered to be "unsafe." How they get away with a law that in no uncertain terms says that people shall not have the ability to make a weapon safe is beyond me...but then so almost all the laws here.

I do now that I found the source of it. In my defense there a lot of very talented people out there who build some crazy, and sometime rather useless things.

                            See you miss the point.

In a court case if you agree the weapon is unsafe by agreeing that the weapons on the list are safe then you have no case.

If however you know the weapons not on the list that are in common use are in fact safe and only became so called unsafe due to the roster then you have a means to challenge the validity of the law.
You can also challenge the validity of the law that it exempts law enforcement officers and they can by anything they want.

See the law is a indirect ban on handguns. And once a the manufactures get tired of paying California's extortion we will have nearly no pistols available to purchase.
This will seek the deal for the state and will allow the atornies to get this law thrown out as a violation of the constitution
We are winning decisions in court. We are just not doing to well in the legislature.
