    AR-15 Featureless Bullpup Project

So my Wife has issues holding a standards AR-15 up for stretches of time, so I figured, lets try it in a bullpup. Yes I know others have done it, but to my knowledge, no one has made and is selling a kit yet. So I'm trying to document all of the steps/parts I'll need to make this happen. Initially it doesn't really seem that hard...

Taking a tape measure my A4 AR-15 I came up with some measurements. The butt to the trigger will need to be ~13 inches to be comfortable. Oddly enough, that means the front of the mag-well will make for a decent "grip" which isn't a grip (can't wrap your thumb around it). This also puts the new trigger ~1 inch in front of the mag-well. Then if you measure back 13 inches off of the "new" trigger, I found I need a buffer tube that extends out of the lower no more than 5".

Anyone know of a such a short buffer tube kit?

From the imaginary new end of the butt stock, I'm at 30.5 inch total length with the current A2-flash hider. So I just need to replace the flash-hider with a muzzle-break of roughly the same length to meet featureless since the new buffer tube won't be adjustable.

Then comes the fun with the trigger linkage. I'm debating just running stiff wire linkage from the old trigger up beside the outside of the mag-well to the new trigger location. I know it won't be pretty but with the right covers and routing, it should be functional. This still take some work to get right. I'm not ready to start drilling out my lower just yet. Or to make a new custom bolt just for this application.

After that, would be getting a new forward rail, something like a UTG which would allow shifting the sights further forward on the rifle. It may also become the attachment location for the top of the trigger assembly since I can't see anyway of working with the handguard slip ring.

Finally, finish the butt-stock by encasing or building up a proper stock using the short buffer-tube.

I'm open to ideas and suggestions. I've never been this adventurous with this platform before.

The NEA CSS stock has a pretty short buffer tube. It uses a new BCG so that half the spring rides on the carrier.

A buffer tube is not needed. There are designs out there that use the gas impingement system and no buffer. You will however have to cut the BC in half
