Weapon refinishing

I recently purchased a S&W 1911 9mm, model 459. It was originally all chrome but there are some wear marks now 30 years later. I am not sure that I want to spend two or three hundred dollars having the whole thing redone. Can anyone suggest any other way to go that might be more reasonable. I have heard that there are some new techniques out there but have no insight into what they may be. I live in the So Cal area. If anyone has any suggestions as to where I may take it I would appreciate the info. Thanks
