    1911 series 80 Colt FTRTB

After the first round, my 1911 failed to return to battery and so I tried to do the basic tap and rack, but the the slide is not moving forward and felt like there is a fix object that stopping it.I found out that the firing pin is protruding in front and the FP stopper is falling down, So I push back the stopper and the FP retracted. dry fired then reload. I racked then fired to 120 rounds. no failure happend.
Could it be that the firing pin plunger is the culprit?
    Any input is appreciated calgunners.
    Thank you.

Sounds like the firing pin jumped out of the firing pin stop plate, or the plate wasn't pushed up far enough to begin with..

It sounds more like the firing pin stop's fault than the plunger.

On my series 70 style 1911 I had a similar problem.

How long have you had the gun? You might look into buying an oversized FP stop, and fitting really tight to avoid the problem in the future.

Remove you firing pin stop and gently center punch the edge of the plate both sided then fit it in place. it should be a snug fit but still removable with out any major use of tools or force.

Thank you Calgunners!!! Hi Kc, I will try doing that while waiting for a bigger FP stop.
@ bzhI got it in 2011, its the rail gun with "100 yrs. of service" rollmark.

This actually happened to me the first round I fired out of my commander. The plate was literally on the web of my hand. I put it back together and 7500 or so rounds later its still going (other issues but that's not for this thread). I carried this pistol for over 10 years too.
