    0% 10/22 receiver?

Any cal gunners made a 10/22 receiver from a chunk of metal? I've seen a few builds online. I'm really thinking of making one like an AK with front and rear trunions and bending a flat and riveting it all together. I'm currently starting a weld together aluminum receiver.

So, I seldom visit the 10/22 forms, but I guess I will be from now on. I have many pending projects, mostly for grandchildren and future grandchildren, and mostly high-end or custom bolt actions, but I've decided to make a 10/22 receiver. The reason is quite simple. I was an LDS bishop for...

I've seen simple plans for a block of metal build and a bolt together parts build. Should be easy to find.

Cncguns.com has solid models of the 10/22

It's pretty simple. Block of aluminum with some holes in the correct spots and a pocket. That's it.
A decent machinist could knock one out in a day. And if he set up to do a hand full could knock out a dozen in a weekend.

That sounds like a challenge....I see at least 5 ops. If tooling and programming don't count I think several dozen in a day is possible.

For some reason vbulletin is telling me that .iges and .x_t are invalid formats and will not let me attach them to this post. If someone needs the CAD file PM me your email and I'll share (or you can just go to CNCguns)

Well I'm a beginner machinist at best. I am a fabricator, welder, welding inspector and instructor so I got a little bit of measuring experience lol. I came across a bolt together receiver on maybe weaponeer, can't remember. I'm just trying to think outside the box and make some chips. The bolt together one that I'm adapting to a weld together unit. It's composed of side plates, top plate and front and rear trunions. I started on the top plate already. I plan to leave the aluminum welds in tact because I'm fairly good with aluminum welding. The whole idea got me thinking of the ak style with rivets in maybe a charger form.
All of it will be done using my new "to me" mini column I just picked up.its an old tai unit from the 70's. I'll be adding some DRO units shortly. Adding tooling as I go
            Starting the top plate

Machining the stuff oversize and I'll cut to final dimensions later

Interesting. I love my 10/22 but, it feels cheap. I put a wood stock to add weight. The idea of a stainless receiver to go with the stainless barrel it cool.

I made some progress today. Not sure if this will ever be an actual working receiver, it's more of a first mill project but I'm pretty satisfied with how it's coming out so far.

Still gotta mill down the thickness of the side plate a bunch but just getting an idea.

That is the coolest home build I've EVER seen.

I made two from solid. Once I got the program dialed in, it wasn't too bad.
Still needed to do a couple set ups on the manual machine after the fact.
Just because things like the undercut on the bolt shelf I felt better about doing it that way.
And I still need to go in and clearance some internal corners.
