Go find an industrial junkyard and pick up a Lyon or vidmar work bench.
You can usually get the frame for less then $50 then either pony up for the butcher block top or get two sheet of maple ply wood and screw it down.

Space is a bit of an issue but not a deal breaker. I like the fact that the one from Home Depot folds pretty easily, though I'm not sure if I'd fold it every time since I'll have the vise mounted on it (seems kinda useless).
I did check out the one you mentioned from HF while I was there picking up the vise you recommended

Sounds like a good idea but I think for the price point, the Home Depot or Harbour Freight (with discount) might be the easiest thing for me to do.
