    1911 slide ding...any ways to fix/cover this?

need help with a ding on the SS slide. its a kimber custom eclipse ii in 10mm. its got a brushed finish.

was thinking of having someone mill another serration, but if there is a good way to cover it up, im all ears.

it is dented in so you can feel it and parts of it is raised. could you fill it with something, then sand it down?

400 grit wet or dry on a surface plate with some WD40 and polish until the dent is gone.

Option two bead blast the whole gun

No no no. The gun case is placed on the mahogany hand rubbed oil finished shooting bench, The shooter puts on his gloves, Corinthian leather of course, The case is opened, The gun is removed from the fleece lining, slide is opened and magazine removed, gun and magazine placed on burgundy velvet pillow. Cartridges removed from the leather bound oak case one at a time and installed in the magazine one round only, magazine gently placed in gun and firmly but gently seated until fully lock into position, Slide release lever depressed. shooter aims and fires one shot, magazine is removed from gun, gun is then set on velvet pillow and a new white Egyptian cotton hand towel is placed on the bench the gun is then field striped cleaned with only the highest of quality $75 per oz. solvents and lubed with the highest purity of fully synthetic sperm whale oil. gently wiped down with a microfiber cloth, One more round installed into the magazine and repeat.

Lol, I go with the use it more comments on this one. That's not a collectible piece. Instead of trying to fix a tiny mark, you should be out shooting it, dumping it in buckets and rolling on the ground with it holstered. Now that it is blemished, you don't have to worry about scratching it more.

By the looks you are using the slide stop to put the gun back into battery.

You are rounding out the notch in the slide and soon it will not hold the slide back on the last shot or when you load a mag it will go into battery on its own.

It is not a slide release it is a slide stop.

(if you are not doing this you have some premature wear at that location)

Now this here is the funniest thing I have read in awhile.

I am with the others - shoot it and carry it for awhile. My Kimber has a bunch of holster wear and several scratches. I am proud of that simply because it shows that I actually use my gun instead of treating it like KC described above LOL

Ya'll would cringe at my carry 1911. It is a stainless commander with SURFACE RUST on the slide AHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I have to use a wire brush on it every time I clean it. It also have a broken ear on the rear sight. It has been my primary carry gun since 2000.

That. Try pulling your slide back instead of using the stop to release the slide. The ding is nothing.
