DA Porting under the barrel?

Nope, I’m not going to blame anybody else. This was strictly my little piece of brilliance. How about why it won’t work?

That would be a sure way to make a DA revolver REALLY hurt! It has nothing to do with DA vs SA revolvers. It's all about the shape of the grips and grip frame. Western type SA grips roll in your hand and most DA grips have a section of grip that catches the web of your hand between your thumb and first finger that doesn't allow them to roll, that's where the pain comes from. Porting the bottom of the barrel would just magnify the pain. Shape the upper rear of the grip frame like a Ruger/Colt SA, make new grips to fit and the problem would be solved.

So there's no free lunch here. You either have a gun that rolls in your hand and hurts less with a slower follow up shot or a gun that grabs the web of your hand with lots of recoil control that hurts more. The best thing you can do is have custom grips that fit your hands and spread the recoil out properly whether it is DA or SA.

Yes correct porting the bottom of the barrel actually increases recoil, muzzle flip and on other important thing ....... powder burns on your fingers.

Those hot gases will not go straight down but in a radius as the gas exits which would include the front of your fingers wrapped around the grip.

because the bisley grip is not that popular even with SA shooters.

like I said a set of Bill Jordan's grips and call it good

you wont screw up the gun, it will feel better in the hand. Your felt recoil will be reduced, and it forces the hand into a proper shooting position.

Personally and this is no chest beating I don't worry about felt recoil until i'm up in the modern magnum calibers like the .454 casull, .460 S&W .500 S&W stuff like that. The gun is just doing what it does and you need to accept that. The endless pursuit for recoil reduction has been going on since firearms were invented. The .357 mag and even the .44 mag have a good thump but nothing major in a full size or even a cut down pistol. You only get nasty recoil out of a .44 mag when you get into the bulldog sized pistols.

The more you shoot the better you can handle recoil, the better you tolerate it, and the better shooter you will become.
