can the dimples on the saiga be welded up without damaging the barrel?

They can, but if you are paying someone else to do it, just replace the FSB and gas block with new ones.
It's not worth paying someone else to rebuild them after they were drilled out.
There really is no need to weld up the dimples on the barrel as the new gas block and FSB will cover them.
Just dress off any galling with a file before you put the new parts back on the barrel.Randall Rausch

that's what I initially thought, but then i thought there wasnt really much to fill there or much tooth for the fill and then thought "why?"... but all my saigas have pinned blocks. so not something i really think about.Comment
