    Help with a Colt SAA

I just bought a Colt SAA and it has some new grips on it that need to be fitted. I have no idea how to do that and don't want to screw it up. Anyone know someone who works on Colts that can do it. Preferably in SoCal. Please PM me if you know of someone.

What part of the grips need fitting?
If it's just that they are proud of the metal, then they simply get sanded down until they are right.
If you do any sanding, the whole grips will likely need to be refinished so they are even.

Mount them on the grip frame, and draw or scribe a line where the wood is proud. Take them off and file or sand to the line, then contour the area until it's blended. Touch up or refinish as required.

Thanks for the responses. They're Ajax faux ivory. I had a set of small fine files and fine sandpaper. They came out pretty good. I went ahead and tried it myself because I really want darker grips and if I screwed it up it wouldn't have really upset me.

since you already gave it a shot. if you need them polished to match the finish wet sand them with 400 grit and work up to 1200 grit. then finish will blend right in perfect.
