S&W 22A Assembly Guide

A long shot, but does anyone know of assembly guide for a S&W 22A (online or otherwise)? The manual from S&W only covers field stripping, I need something that explains how to remove the extractor and firing pin -- I suppose I could just try and take it apart, but I am concerned it would be a one-way trip!

First make sure the gun is unloaded. Lock the slide to the rear. When you remove the barrel the slide will try to come off so just hold it on or be very careful while removing the barrel. Remove the barrel. Use caution to move the barrel backwards as it is removed upwards so you don't break the little clip at the rear of the barrel under the rear sight. Now with your hand on the slide, release the slide up and forward. This will free the recoil spring and quide rod. There is a little white recoil buffer at the end of the quide rod get new ones, get lots of them, from Brownells they only cost a couple of dollars and get a new recoil spring while you are at it.
Looking the slide over you will see a black plastic insert that houses the firing pin. Turn the slide upside down and let the plastic insert hang over a edge so it can fall free and tap the part of the plastic you can see with a punch and small hammer, it is not in very tight but it won't just fall out. I would get a new plastic piece as well. That will remove the firing pin.
For the extractor lay the slide on its side with the extractor up and you will notice that there are two parts a hooky thing that is the extractor and a plungey thing that pushes on the extractor to provide tension. Just lay the slide with the underside up, or place in a vise with the extractor slot exposed, now push back the plunger and hold the plunger all the way back at the same time take another small driver and thru the hole provided in the slide underside push out the extractor, some times it will just fall out if allowed. When you let go of the screwdriver holding the plunger the plunger and spring will want to shoot out. Reverse to assemble. Parts are cheap get anything you need from Brownells. PM if you need help.

Thanks for the info, I was going to replace the firing pin, firing pin spring, extractor and extractor spring on my 22A.

While you have your 22A apart you may want to inspect the trigger pin area of the frame. They are known to crack. When the crack starts you will experience intermittent FTF.
Remove the left grip and look the area of the trigger pivot pin and above over with a good light and magnification.
