    Blasting/parking pressed in AK components?

    Hello,

working with an ak builder pistol kit:

Everything came pressed on. I removed only the trunnion so far (to rivet it to the receiver first) , but I left the rear sight, front sight, and gas tube pinned/pressed onto the barrel.

Will there be any issues if I blast and parkerize these components 'while' they are pressed onto the barrel, or should I remove these items from the barrel before parkerizing?

    Thx!!

No, most people blast/park complete guns with barrel in trunnion.

I leave the rear sight base, gas block and front sight on the barrel.
I remove the rear sight blade and detail strip it as well as every small part from the bolt so that none of the spring loaded pins get sand stuck in them.
The worst part of blasting assemblies instead of individual parts is getting the sand out from in between parts that are captive.
The parts on an AK where this applies would be the lower handguard retainer and the gas tube latch.

Oh, another question. Should I plug the barrel before parking since it is chrome lined anyways (the parking shouldn't affect chrome, right)? Or do you recommend plugging the barrel?

You don't want to sandblast inside so you can plug it to protect against that.
There is no need to plug it during parkerizing though.
The park won't effect the chrome.

It's an AK. It's supposed to have sand in it. It functions better that way.

Remember that time I said there are vastly varying levels of the quality of work and pride of workmanship that goes into converting Saigas?
This is one of those things.
