    191 enter/exit battery problem

    Here is the issue, pics to follow if necessary:

    Background:
    The slide and barrel will not enter fully into battery unless tapped or forced into place.
    Bottom barrel lugs/ feet contact the back of the cavity in the frame. Barrel link appears to have full range of motion as well.

    What I have identified:
    • When slide is on the frame, full range of motion (FROM) is achievable
    • when barrel is added to previous step, FROM is achievable
    • when slide stop is added to the previous step, FROM is achievable however in the slide forward position, there is no play for the barrel to tilt up or down, its is stuck tilted barrel end down.
    • add the barrel bushing to the previous step and FROM is not achievable and slide will not go all the way forward without being tapped or forced.
    • when trying just the frame, slide, barrel, and barrel bushing (no slide stop), FROM is not achievable

    when I say from is not achievable, I mean there is roughtly .1-.2" of slide overhang that will not go forward.

    I think it might be the slide lugs due to the way the barrel is forced in a tilted down position (when the bushing is not present)

    Also, this specific barrel worked just find on two different slide/frame combos, which I think further supports my hypothesis.

    It could be that the link is too long for that slide / frame combination.
    And / or:
    Are the lugs in the current slide the same height / depth as the other slide(s) you have?

      the slide that the barrel is NOT functioning in has more generous tolerances than the other slides as far as I can measure, which is why I am stumped.

        The bushing is PART of the lockup equation.
        You need to fit the barrel into the slide some more.
        Don't go swapping parts around to try and decide what's wrong.
        What matters is the fit of a specific slide/bushing/barrel/frame.
        Fit your barrel to your slide/bushing/frame and then it will lockup properly.

        It could be that your lower barrel lugs might not be cut properly.
        Get a lug cutter and go through the fitting of the lower lugs and you should be good.

          If the barrel is seated in the slide and the slide won't slide on the frame all the way what would you think would be the hold up? First check to see that the barrel seat is deep enough. Also check ALL dimensions of the frame to make sure that they are all within Specs. Like the distance between the Slide Stop Hole and the Standing Lug Impact surface. Also the distance between the Deck height and the bottom relief cut in the frame for the Standing Lug. Just to name a few. Also just because a part fits in one gun doesn't mean it will fit in another. (Welcome to the 1911)

            I figured it out. The slide stop pin was contacting the feet on the barrel...forcing it to tilt down and not allowing the slide all the way forward.

              That's how the barrels COME.
              You use a lug cutter to cut the lower lugs.
              After that, you will have proper lockup of the barrel against the slide stop pin.
