    Stripped Hex Screw - Handrail

Sigh, so I was trying to remove the handrail off my smith and wesson mp15t and I got all the screws off besides one. I didn't heat the area as there is red lock tight on the screws and by trying to force it out, I stripped it

Ahhhh, I want to remove it and I want to do it myself , but if it requires extra special tools, then I will need gunsmith to handle this for me. I still have some grip left inside the screw but I feel its pretty much done. Looks like it needs to be drilled out.

I have the proper hex tools, I just stripped it by forcing it off without heating the lock tight screw first. I removed one on the other side that had the lock tight but stubbornness kicked in and I was trying to force this one out. Its by the dust cover. Here are some pics, its the screw on the right.

if the head came off could you pull your hand guard forward and remove it??

I know a trick but i don't recommend it to a rookie when we would bust the head off a stud we would weld a nut to it and turn it out the way.

In your case this can be done but the welder better now what he's doing.

then other trick would be to use a one of those screw out bits but first heat the head up with a soldering iron to break the loctite.

Now once again red loctite has no place on screws on firearms that are going to be removed at some point.

Purple or blue at the most. thats all that you need with proper torque and clean bolts.

If you can get in there, you can carefully grind a small slot in the remaining head using a cut-off disc in a Dremel tool and use a screwdriver to remove it, after heating the Loctite of course.

        This for sure.

You could also tap a torx bit from a magna tip set into the stripped hex recess and turn it out using a 1/4" box or open wrench, after heating to release the loctite. Pick a bit size that gives some bite in the recess.

Use the torx bit suggestion, that will work.
