Setting up a mini mill inside an empty bedroom?

I still have my LMS mini mill inside the crate because I still need to save and buy tooling and a stand.

I was thinking of setting up my mini mill in one of the empty bedrooms mainly because of the A/C. It's too hot to work in the garage, not enough lighting, nor ventilation without pissing off my neighbors with an open garage.

It would also be easier to watch my 4yr old if he wanted to hang around in the room instead of him running outside where I'd have to constantly chase him.

My main concern is really the chips that will go on the carpet. Looking for ideas on how to catch or minimize the amount of chips from going onto the carpet.

Also having it inside minimize/suppress the amount of noise the mill will make.

Rip your carpet out. Sand the floors down and lay several coats of polyurethane.

The swarf gets everywhere. It gets into everything.

I am a neat-freak when it comes to keeping everything neat and organized ... and even I cannot control the swarf! I do all my machining out on a concrete floor in the garage.

I've tried all I could to stop anything from going on the carpet, but it's just not something that can easily be achieved.

Eventually you'll have grease, dirt, chips. I built an enclosure and still things find their way onto the carpet.

if you want to protect the carpet best to lay down something else on it.

The mill will be too loud to run in a house.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Visqueen plastic over the carpet taped on the edges with linoleum rolled over that up the walls about a foot. Like a large bowl

Not possible! Need to be on a solid floor. Between the noise, the fumes (hot oil) and the swarf you can't run this thing inside your home (especially a rental!)

False wall your garage and add a window air-conditioner and a dust control system . . .

I have room in my garage! I would just use your garage, it will be cooling down in a couple of months anyway.

The swamp cooler is probably cool enough but does put a lot of moisture in the area --

You should have heard my wedding vows...
One of them was to try not to bring so many chips into the house.
You would think that 30ft of walkway between the shop and house would be enough to get the chips out of your shoes before you go in the house right?
                          Nope.
No amount of walking around will clear the chips, but the house carpet sure does a good job of pulling them out of my shoes...

Having a renter with a milling machine inside the dwelling is almost as bad as renting to pot growers.

It might go about like this:

                              Pot growers with pitbulls.
                              Milling machine.
                              Pot growers without pets.
