Which barrel to use to build an AK style weapon for 7.62X25 (.309 diametre)round? Is .308 blank (undersized .001) would be better than AK-47 barrel (.311, oversized .002) Thanks.

There were some guys in Utah doing this mod a few years ago, along with a 9mm version. I think they were using PPsh and Soumi drums as the basis for them. If you are using 7.62x25 the standard AK brl. will work finw as long as you are not trying to get MOA groups. They used the mags as is and modified the AK mag well and some of the jobs looked ok and others looked pretty bad.If you are going to do a pistol caliber ak it would be better to make a sheet metal adapter for the mag or cut the top off a standard mag and put the pistol caliber mag in it and weld it inside it, it will feed a lot better then trying to make one from scratch. The only other problem is the rim size, you need a sleeve or weld up the original bolt to fit the .25 rim. I seem to remember they sold a kit to do the bolt mods, go to google and do a search for the subject and I`m sure you can find it. Can use .308 or .311 barrel I have both. Lots of ways to go. It is definitely an advanced build.
